So in case you haven’t been paying attention, Adele released a new album on February 22 here in the states. Dubbed 21, it’s her sophomore album, and it rocks. I mean really, really, really rocks. I’ve had it in my iTunes since February, listened to the whole thing countless times, and I absolutely love it. Every single song is incredible, from beginning to end. I actually loved the album so much, I decided to make a bit of a writing project out of it. I decided to write a short story, five hundred words or less, that captured the idea of each song on the album, as I saw/heard it. I’ll post one today, and a couple tomorrow, etc. (Don’t worry, I have them all done already). (: I’ll also post a recording or music video of each song so you can hear them too, and see whether my personal creative interpretation strikes you. (: Enjoy!
ROLLING IN THE DEEP.
As the door slid shut behind him, her heart began to burn, murderously hot, fanned by the wind of his misdeeds and mistruths. Her muscles tensed, each and every fiber contracting to an imperceptible tautness, a tightening beyond any imaginable measure. Breathing deeply and rapidly through her nose, she recounted the very one sided goodbye that had taken place here just moments before. Eyes finally open, she was able to see him for who he was. The lying bastard had played her, played her as she lay exposed in the palm of his hand.
The fire of scorn having risen to an excitable boiling point, she rose suddenly, snatching her revenge from the counter. She then exited, yanking the sliding door open, leaving it to clatter shut on inertia alone. Her heeled shoes clicked across the pavement after him, rhythmically lethal. Alerted by the percussive sound, he turned to face her searing vehemence, not at all prepared for the scorching ferocity that stalked him as he left.
His defensive words died on the cusp of his tongue, strangled by a gurgle brought on by igneous vengeance. Her steaming heart, scarred by his love, heaved in her chest, beating furiously fast in time with the echoes of her footsteps. Blood dripping from the blade she held added its beat to the stormy night, daring to accentuate the already feverous blaze. Panting heavily, she spat the words from her mouth onto his fading form.
“We could have had it all.”
